Think back to when you were a young child. Do you recall a little voice inside with words of wisdom? Of caution? As you grew older, that same voice for some of us, became more of an annoyance that seemed to always shout out knowing all the answers before we did. It seemed to have something to say about everything! So, as we grew older, we may have pushed it aside wanting to go it alone feeling as though “I’ve got this”. How did that work out for you? Personally, I made a whole bunch of mistakes, some I would wish to have avoided.
AWARENESS. This book is all about awareness and is a great tool for children of all ages, serving as a reminder to those who may have grown away from or forgotten about their inner voice and the wisdom, the strength, and the power it beholds.
In this book, young Lucy is hoping for a “basket” for her birthday with all the answers she is seeking to her most very important questions. What she receives will surprise her and teach her that she already possesses the answers she so intently seeks. She becomes aware of her inner voice and learns of its importance for her own inner strength, hope and for her new word, guidance.
This is a little book with a very powerful message for the child in us all seeking answers.
God is in My Tummy by Diane M. Howell is a truly remarkable and inspired work that has the potential to touch countless lives—both young and old. This book offers children a beautiful, simple, and relatable way to understand that they are never alone, and that God is always present and communicating with them in ways they can grasp.
One of the most profound aspects of Howell’s approach is the metaphor of talking to God as naturally as eating. This comparison is not only clever, but also deeply meaningful, reminding readers that just as our bodies need nourishment, our souls also long to be “filled up.” The book captures this spiritual truth in a way that children can easily relate to, while also resonating with parents and caregivers.
The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous, pulling readers into the flow of the story and amplifying the message in a warm, engaging way. The inclusion of the magic teddy bear adds a delightful, whimsical touch that children will adore. Yet, beyond the playful imagery, the story conveys an even deeper truth: we all carry that same spark of divine magic within ourselves. It is a message of hope, comfort, and empowerment that cannot be forgotten.
Overall, Diane M. Howell has created more than just a children’s book—she has given the world a tool for spiritual connection and reassurance. God is in My Tummy is destined to inspire, uplift, and change the way children (and adults) think about their relationship with God. A truly amazing contribution.

All I can say is wow. It’s so well done. It puts the notion of GOD in terms that all little ones can understand. I loved how the teddy bear explained to her that you don’t need to look for God when you need answers that he is in all of us . If you need guidance all you have to do is ask and you’ll feel the answers in your “tummy” aka your gut. That is so true as I often have had experiences where I have an instinct about something and when I follow it I’m usually right.
The illustrations are also wonderful for young readers. They are so engaging and really will captivate them.

A mother herself with young children, Diane Marie Howell found it challenging to find a book that talked about God in a way in which her children could truly understand, connect with, and internalize in a meaningful way. The title God Is In My Tummy came to her more than 20 years ago while reading …
